Differential Thermal Analysis (DTA) is a "fingerprinting" technique that provides information on the chemical reactions, phase transformations, and structural changes that occur in a sample during a heat-up or a cool-down cycle.

In 1980 a team from the National Bureau of Standards-NBS (now National Institute of Standards and Technology-NIST) visited Orton to assist in establishing a temperature measurement capability which would be directly traceable to NBS/NIST.

Orton manufactures a wide range of thermoanalytical instruments that measure the physical properties of ceramic, glass, metal, polymer, elastomer, and composite materials at a variety of temperatures.

The Orton Simultaneous DTA/TGA is used to study the raw material decompositions and reactions during melting, and determining glass transition temperatures.
